Course Description
 The goal of this course is to help caregivers understand their function as role model, protector and teacher of safety for children in all types of child care settings as they show an awareness of the effect of children''s surroundings (air breathed, surfaces touched, food eaten) on their health and well-being. Objectives of the class include demonstrating the ability to work with parents to improve the health and safety of children, preventing many accidents and injuries in the child care setting, dealing effectively with basic first aid steps that are specific to the child care setting, identifying common infectious childhood diseases, determining how germs are spread and taking appropriate measures to reduce the spread of germs and the risk of infectious diseases and prevent illness in the child care setting (e.g., washing hands correctly, cleaning and sanitizing work and play surfaces, diapering, properly airing out room and handling and storing food in a safe manner).
